The Professional Golf Association (PGA) Australian Championships 2013 started with a bang this year. With the tournament taking place from Thursday 7 Nov to Sunday 10 Nov at Royal Pines, Gold Coast, PGA, in collaboration with Surfers Paradise Alliance, launched the series with a Media Stunt at Surfers Paradise beach on Wednesday night 6 Nov.
Keeping with the PGA theme of “Lighting up the Gold Coast”, two pro-golfers, American Ricky Fowler and Aussie Marc Leishman, were challenged to a tee-off duel with a difference: teeing off from a 1.5meter elevated stage underneath the famous Surfers Paradise sign aiming for a ring a fireworks on the beach!
With a live cross on Channel 10 for ‘The Project’, Marc Leishman managed to get the most fluro coloured balls through the ring.
AFL legend Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt hosted the hour and a DJ played catchy tunes throughout the breaks. The extravaganza drew a nice crowd of passers-by who were all eager to score some signed merchandise from Ricky and Marc at the conclusion of the stunt.
