Saturday 1 June was the last monthly market within the Gold Coast Chinatown district. Even though it’s sad to see the markets go after 4 years of their existence, they are making way for bigger and better things happening at the precinct.
The monthly markets have always been plagued by rain, with this last one not being the exception. Early on patrons started flowing in however, when the rain hit around 6.30pm the crowd dispersed to dryer places.
We had some stellar entertainment lined up for the night with talent such as Lucy Gallant and Wildflower playing all night. In addition, there were flame throwers positioned throughout Young Street and The Laneway which brought a great vibe to the event and complimented the impressive fire show by Energy Entertainment.
As usual the streets were lined with delicious, authentic Asian food and drink stalls, ranging from Noodles, Sushi and Dim Sims to Matcha Coffees and Japanese balls. And the kids were entertained by free kids crafts, face painting and table tennis, whilst the parents enjoyed their meals and drinks.
Our Role
3vent has been contracted by the City of Gold Coast to organise and manage the event operations of the Chinatown Markets for 2018/2019, with the June event being the final monthly market at the precinct. Our project management role consists of organising the complete markets. This includes the stall holders and entertainment, booking infrastructure, traffic management and electrical requirements as well as creating all event and WHS documentation, and supplying event staffing. We also provide onsite event management and oversee all infrastructure bump-in and stall holder placement on event day.
