The Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) Australia Day Celebrations have been a tradition for over 25 years on the Gold Coast. One of the biggest and best free one day events on the Gold Coast, it features classic Australian expo’s and shows such as wood chopping, pig races, sheep herding, sheep shearing, blacksmithing and wood turning, and loads of entertainment for young and old.
Aside from the large number of kids’ activities, rides and shows, this year we introduced the world’s largest inflatable waterslide to the event. We also brought in some additional adult entertainment such as an Aussie Comedy show and BBQ Master Classes, and we activated the council lake (at the back of the Gold Coast Arts Centre) with water activities including walk on water balls, kayak and stand-up paddle board hire.
Whether you wanted to relax and listen to some Aussie bands or get amongst it and ride the world’s largest inflatable waterslide, it was all happening right on Bundall Road. An estimated 15,000 people visited the event over the course of the day which was a great turn out considering the day started off with showers. Luckily the clouds cleared towards the end of the morning and made way for a pretty sunny afternoon.
