The City of Gold Coast’s Australia Day Celebrations have been a tradition for over 25 years on the Gold Coast. One of the biggest and best free one-day events on the Gold Coast, it features classic Australian expo’s and shows such as wood chopping, pig races, sheep herding, sheep shearing and wood turning, and loads of entertainment for young and old.
To bring a fresh feel to the event there were some new elements introduced and also some good-ol’ ones brought back like camel rides. The new elements were extremely well received and included a motorbike stunt show by World Champion Jack Field and one of his side kicks, an interactive kids activity area for the younger crowds, a hip-hop dance show and workshops, complete new rides, and an Aqua Park on the lake at the other side of the council chambers.
Aside from the large number of kids activities, rides and shows, we also brought back the adult entertainment in the large 300m2 stretch marquee which included again the very popular Aussie Comedy show, and also featured cooking shows from local celebrities Paul and Blair, previous contestants on My Kitchen Rules.
The heavy rain in days prior made our bump-in schedule a little challenging however, with a little improvising we made it all work in the end. An estimated 15,000-20,000 people visited the event over the course of the day which was a great turn out considering it was a very ‘Australian’ hot and muggy 35+ degrees.
