The very first Color Run on New Zealand turf! With 9,000 runners Auckland was a great start to the Color Run hype with Christchurch and Wellington to follow in the next 2 months.
The welcome to New Zealand was a bit grey unfortunately with showers and overcast but that didn’t dampen the spirit of the NZ Color Run team as they geared up for their very first event. On race day the clouds were also hanging over town but luckily it stayed dry for our first NZ Color Runners and the rain only came when it was time for the clean-up – making it all that much harder for the team to get the streets back to BCR (Before Color Run) standards.
A unique American concept by origin, The Color Run (TCR) is focused on fun instead of performance. It’s all about music, colour and madness as runners make their way through the 5km run, being bombarded with a different colour powder every kilometre to finish into an even bigger colour mania called the Finish Festival. Here, the runners get a chance to drench themselves, and everyone else, in even more colour by throwing their own colour packets around, all the while dancing and singing along to the latest tunes being played on the main stage by a DJ.
As the New Zealand events will be run by a local team, only key staff of 3vent Productions went over to Auckland to show the Kiwi’s how we do it in Australia. The next event in Australia is in Sydney on 9 February 2014 which means our standard 3vent team is back to manage the course production and logistics including providing a Course Manager and team of seven 3vent supervisors responsible for the Start Line, 4 Color Zones, Finish Line and Cleaning Zone plus providing the services of the TCR resident MC, DJ Tallie.
