The 70.3 Ironman – this was the last time this event, under this name, was held in Canberra. But… it is very likely that there will be a similar race held next year, just under a different banner. With over 1,100 athletes competing as individuals and teams, the weather was hot and steamy in the lead-up to the big day however, on the day it brought some welcome overcast conditions which kept temperatures down until mid morning.
As one of the toughest races in the world, the half Ironman course combined a 1.9km lake swim, a 90km ride through the nation’s major iconic buildings and landmarks and a 21.1km run through downtown Canberra’s parklands.
