On Monday, May 13, 2019, Red Bull Cape Fear finally returned after waiting three years for the right swell to hit Shipstern Bluff.
Relocated from Sydney’s Cape Solander to the infamous Tasmanian break for the first year this year, the competition was now dubbed “The Battle of the Bluff”. Due to its remote location, this turned out to be one of the biggest challenging challenges in surf event history, pitting a handful of the world’s best big-wave and slab surfers against one of the remotest, most infamous slab waves in the world.
This year the competition saw 20 surfers (international and local) face off on some of the most powerful waves on earth. In the end, Hawaiian Nathan Florence took the 2019 Red Bull Cape Fear crown.
With big-name celebrities such as Chris Hemsworth flying in to watch the event live from a large yacht, it was certainly an event not to be missed!
