The first ever Gold Coast Bulletin Fun Run, sponsored by Trilby Misso, turned out to be a huge success! With over 2,000 participants of all ages, sizes and fitness levels it was a great day and with some blessings from the weather gods, it escaped cancellation as torrential rain on the day before the race could have created dangerous conditions for runner.
The Gold Coast Bulletin Fun Run was a family festival focused on personal achievement and getting the “healthy body, healthy mind” message out there; an environment where young and old were encouraged to be involved in a healthy lifestyle activity in a fun format and achieved great personal satisfaction.
This positive, ‘can-do’ vibe made it the sort of morning at Robina where a no-name kid could find himself running – albeit briefly – alongside a Olympian, which was exactly what had happened… The crowd were ecstatic when the commentator announced that Marathon king Michael Shelley was amongst them, the Commonwealth Games silver medalist having decided to incorporate the event into his preparation for this year’s London Olympics. With about 2000 people covering distances from 1km to 10km, it was a great sight to see hardcore runners trod the same streets as littlies who had yet to master tying their shoelaces.
