To get all the people on the Gold Coast in the swing of Christmas, Surfers Paradise Alliance organised ‘Christmas in Surfers Paradise’, 16 days of Christmas performances and activities leading up to 24 December.
The family celebration brought Santa’s mailbox, a stunning light show, six white boomers and the big man himself to Surfers Paradise, along with Carols by Candlelight and Christmas pantomime. The event centred on Cavill Mall, where Santa Claus set up shop every night alongside his sleigh and mailbox amid a spectacular ‘Christmas Storyland’ pantomime.
At the mailbox, kids were encouraged to send their Christmas wishes to Santa who, as Christmas Day neared, hit the beach on board an IRB and proceeded up the mall to collect his mail!
Pantomime and Christmas storytelling took place each night under the colourful snow gum Christmas tree next to Santa’s sleigh, with festive sing-alongs and interactive appearances from Dr. Seuss’s Christmas pest, The Grinch. Roving performers and Gold Coast choirs also performed carols each night, with gala Cavill Mall Carols by Candlelight performances.
3vent Productions oversaw some of these events and supplied Surfers Paradise Alliance with event crew when needed.
