On Saturday 20 February, approx. 10,000 people flocked to Southport to celebrate the 2016 Chinese New Year and the Year of the Monkey. Complete with fireworks, an inflatable sumo wrestling arena, jumping castle, ping pong tables, an outdoor cinema screening Kung Fu Panda, Asian artwork displays, all-night live entertainment and roaming Chinese Dragons, it was the ultimate Saturday Night activity for families young and old.
A concoction of Asian inspired cuisine flooded the streets and alleyways of Chinatown, with word on the street describing patrons experiences as ‘truly authentic Asian’. The large variety of countries represented meant there were many dishes to choose from and the event provided something for everyone’s palate; Thai noodles, Indian curries, Korean fried chicken, Japanese rice rolls and deserts, dumplings, Asian inspired pies, sweet treats and ice-creams was just a small selection of the deliciousness on offer.
The beautiful start filled night made for the perfect ambiance to relax, play, eat and drink and resulted in a very successful night. If you missed out of getting your fix tough, be sure to head down to Chinatown Southport for the Chinatown Markets, held on the first Saturday of every month.
