WOW – what an event and what a great cause!
The Australian Transplant Games are held every two years in a different Australian State. The Games cover a multitude of sports and recreational activities, giving transplantees the opportunity to try sports they have not participated in before.
This year it was Queenslands turn and Gold Coast was the chosen city. 3vent Productions was lucky enough to be picked as the Gold Coast Event Management company to execute the Opening of the Games on behalf of Transplant Australia.
Held on Wednesday 3 October, the opening event consisted of a 3km and 5km fun run/walk through Broadwater Parklands and an Opening Ceremony in the morning, followed by an Opening Street Parade through Surfers Paradise in the afternoon and a VIP Cocktail function on the Surfers Paradise foreshore at night.
The weather was beautiful that morning which was a great start to the day for the almost 400 people participating in the fun run and walk. Making their way through the beautiful parklands located right on the water all participants ended their journey back into the Main Pavillion where the Opening Ceremony was then hosted. Attended by the Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, the Opening Ceremony marked the start of the 2018 Australian Transplant Games!
With the fun run/walk completed, the focus was thereafter on the Opening Street Parade through the busy streets of Surfers Paradise. 280 Games Competitors, grouped by state/territory, commenced the parade on the Northern end of Surfers and marched all the way through to Hanlan Street at the southern end of the foreshore where the VIP Cocktail Function was hosted. Attended by Transplant officials and Local Government representatives various speeches on the night highlighted how far the Games have come since their inception in 1988 and importance of the Games to transplantees nationwide. 3vent are honoured to have been a part of such a great event and amazing cause!
